We stayed in Florence from Thursday night until Monday afternoon. The funeral was on Sunday and it was a nice celebration of my
Nene's life. I have included some pictures of Neely Kate getting to play in the house and in the same yard that I grew up playing in for hours. She loved getting to be a "country girl" as my family calls it. She spent almost all of her time outside playing in the field or swinging on the front porch. She was a perfect little girl at the funeral and at the funeral home for the visitation. She was constantly asking where was
Nene and wanted to look at her continually. She would sometimes call my mom
Nene because she usually saw them together.

Eating dinner on the red pot. She will not sit in a high chair or a booster. This is fine at
nene's house because every grandchild has sat on that red pot to eat their dinner. We were sticking with tradition. You could tell we were at
Nene's house because the food was good ole down south from the garden cooking. She will eat all her vegetables here. My 96 year old great grandmother is in the background.

For the Fourth, my uncle Rod made homemade ice cream and my dad grilled out. Neely Kate loves ice cream so she got her own cup of vanilla. She thought she was such a big girl.

Digging in and eating it before her mommy can get some.

Neely Kate loved to water the flowers in the yard. She would pretend to turn on the faucet and put water in the can, then walk over to the flowers and water them. This was a daily activity.

Watering the flowers.

Neely Kate and my dad rolling a baseball back back and forth while everyone else was eating one of the donated breakfast meals.
Another shot of her throwing the ball.

Neely Kate discovered my other grandmother's homemade chocolate chip cookies this weekend as well. She drove down for the funeral and brought us cookies. Every time we see her she makes us cookies. Nobody makes cookies like grandma and these were some of the best she has ever made. Neely Kate agreed because she ate the entire thing, a rarity for her, and would not even give me a bite. She is learning quick about the battle over grandma's cookies. Thank you for bringing them.
Chris's granny, Aunt Deedie and Uncle Bake also came down for the funeral. This was nice because it not only showed that they respected and loved by Nene, but it was helpful because they watched NK during the actual funeral service and then brought her to me for the graveside service. It was important to me that she be there. Granny brought NK a Cinderella lunchbox that she carries everywhere. It is perfect for carrying her "rella" toys and the "Snow Up" toys that Ine brought her.
Thank you to everyone for the texts and thoughts this past week. They were appreciated and needed.
