Neely Kate's First Movie

Chris and I took Neely Kate to her very first movie at the theater today. We decided to go on a family outing after Church today because Chris has had to work every Saturday for the past month due to all the storms we have had. We ate lunch at the food court so as to skip the previews. We figured it was worth skipping it. Chris thought the previews would last longer than they did because we missed the beginning of the movie. Neely Kate did a great job. She thought that Horton, the movie was Horton Hears a Who, was Big Al, the Alabama mascot. She called him Roll Tide. She started in Chris's lap but got fidgety and wanted in my lap. We gave her her Cinderella snacks and she hunkered down for the remainder of the movie. There was one point in the movie when she was telling the movie, "No, no, no. Not nice." This would be when the Kangaroo was getting all the animals to capture Horton and destroy the clover. She fell asleep in my arms the last five minutes of the film. We were shocked she lasted as long as she did and did as great a job as she did. Maybe the key was to go during the napping hour. It was a fun family time and Chris actually said that he enjoyed the film. As soon as we got home, I tried to get Neely Kate out of her car seat and keep her asleep. This unfortunately did not happen. She awoke, screaming and trying her hardest to get back in the carseat, if only she wanted in it on mornings we have to go to work. Naptime was officially over for the day after only lasting 30 minutes. The screaming lasted as long as the nap itself. You would think that she would go to bed early. Nope. She is Chris's child which means that sleep is not that essential. Thank goodness I just bought this turtle thing that shines stars onto the ceiling. I like to leave it on the blue setting because the stars are brighter. She lays in bed and looks up at her ceiling. You could hear her on the monitor talkign about the turtle and the stars. Another first for the Benton bunch today and I am looking forward to many more firsts.
